We Did It !!

May 26th, 2009

Trekking for 6 long days the objective of our expedition; the summit of Pike Peak in the Everest region of the Nepalese Himalaya was made at 7.00 am on Thursday 14th May 2009. With views over Mount Everest this made the tough trek and mixed weather conditions all worthwhile.  Thank you to everyone who has helped in this incredible endevour, with your help I have raised nearly £10,000 for Unicef and as a group of trekkers we have raised a total of over £110,000 for the children of Nepal.

Take a look at my Trek Diary, link on the left for more details about the whole experience.

So whats next I hear you cry… Well plans are already afoot for a trek in the Sahara Desert next year, so watch this space!

Steve’s Steps - Guess My Steps? (Already raised £81)

September 17th, 2008

As I trek across the Himalayas in May I will be wearing a pedometer, kindly donated by www.pedometers.co.uk

See if you can guess the amount of steps I take, the winner wins a bottle of Champagne kindly donated by Martin Collins of Thringstone.

We politely request you make a minimum £1 donation when you make your guess at the number of steps I will be taking, you can do this by going to my make a donation page. Please send your guess to this website via the comments pages. If you want an idea of my journey, check out the route here on the site.

Also, anyone wanting to work out how many steps you think I will make, on my recent 8 hour hike up Snowden I took nearly 25,500 steps, although I’m not sure if the final 200 metre climb on hands and knees got counted!

Guests at the Charity Auction were invited to participate in this challenge, which has already raised £81.

Thanks for your support.

Steve’s Trek turns ‘Fabulous’

August 4th, 2008

Steve’s Trek has joined forces with Fabulous Photo Gifts so that you can raise money simply by purchasing a personalised photo gift.

Using their unique ‘Funds for Life’ fund raising scheme, simply go to their website, enter our special participation code “TREK” into the funds for life window on the home page (before starting your order) or at the PayPal checkout in the comments section and Fabulous Photo Gifts will donate 10% of your basket total to my cause. That’s every order - every time.

There’s no limit to the number of times the code can be used so just by sharing my code with your friends and family, whenever they order, if they use the code, they’ll be raising money as well.

It’s a great idea - everyone has a gift giving occasion and their range of personalised photo gifts is excellent. Jigsaws, mugs, mousemats, tableware etc.

Click Here to place an order now but don’t forget to use my special fund raising code - TREK - in the appropriate place.

Please note that bulk orders are excluded from their fund raising scheme.

The Children of Nepal - you can help too

July 30th, 2008

Hi,

On 9th May 2009 I will be joining a group of volunteers on a 10 day trek in the Himalayan Mountains of Nepal on behalf of UNICEF to raise funds to support child vaccination and education projects in the region.

The trek will reach the summit of Pike Peak at just over 4000m in altitude, from where we should be able to view neighbouring Mount Everest.

Representing a physical challenge, requiring a lot of preparation; we will be travelling light across steep and rough terrain and camping in temperatures around -10 oC (a challenge in itself!). I am also aiming to raise a minimum of £3000 to support this much needed cause.  Any support you can give me towards this goal will be greatly appreciated and extremely well received by UNICEF to support the children of Nepal in need of basic health and education.

As I am covering all my own travel costs, ALL The money raised will directly benefit the children of Nepal.

In addition to any on-line support you may be able to contribute towards, I am also organising a Charity Auction, Dinner Dance on the 19th September 2008. So far we have been donated some amazing prizes (signed rugby and football memorabilia, Premiership Football tickets, flying and driving experiences to name a few of the prizes). For more info or to book tickets please send me a message, there are only limited tickets available so book early to avoid disappointment.

More details on my dedicated website www.stevestrek.co.uk where you can view updates of my progress and receive realtime pics and twitter from the trek itself.

UNICEF helps children receive the support, health care and education they need to survive the threats of childhood poverty - such as preventable disease or malnutrition - and grow up to become healthy adults. You can read more about their work on http://unicef.org.uk

Please help me get the ball rolling and make any generous contribution you can afford to this cause, its easy on-line, also please don’t forget to tick the gift aid box if you can, UNICEF receive an 30% donation if you do.  Thank you on my own and UNICEF’s behalf.

Best wishes Steve Brown
